Where Blessings Are Born
People look in all sorts of directions to receive blessings.
Many millennials are looking to Mom and Dad for blessings by moving back home with them after attending college.
So many are taking this path, in fact, that they are now being called the
“boomerang generation” because they just keep coming back. Whether eyes are set
on parents, the government, or even my own work ethic, people look in all sorts
of places to find blessings and most are eager to take credit to themselves for
every good thing happening in their life.
Sadly, most
people do not realize that God is the source of everything that is truly a
blessing (James 1:17), and they have fallen into the trap of the Israelites
seen in Hosea 2:8, where God says to that unfaithful people:
8 “For she does not know that
it was I who gave her the grain, the new wine and the oil, And lavished on her silver
and gold, Which they used for Baal…13
“I will punish her for
the days of the Baals When she used to offer sacrifices to them And adorn herself with her earrings and jewelry,
And follow her lovers,
so that she forgot Me,” declares the Lord.
A people that refuses to thank God for its blessings will
soon find itself without them. God promised to take away all His blessings to
remind the people that He is the source, and not all their lovers (idols).
Sometimes
the church falls in love with traditions, technology, or even teachers, and
those lovers take them away from God. They begin relying on them for their
blessings instead of remembering that God is the origin place for all
blessings, and that faithful service to Him is what He desires. Nothing should
take the place of God, and we should never consider that any but Him is
showering blessings on our life.
Do you seek
to please another than God? Have you forgotten your Lord, have you begun
serving others instead? Remember to remember the Lord, to be thankful to Him
for every good thing in your life, and renew your efforts to walk in His ways.
