The Bible: More than a Children’s Book

Child Bible As you may already know, I am a minister at the West Visalia Church of Christ in Visalia, California. We have begun implementing a program aimed at the children in the congregation called, “The 66 Club”. The point of the program is to help the youngsters memorize scriptures and learn the 66 books of the Bible in order. The passages they learn are strategically grouped into certain subjects the Bible covers so that the children can not only be learning scripture, but learning to place those scriptures together with others of the same type or subject. The program is doing very well and the children are learning habits that will benefit them as they continue their walk in Christ.

One thing is unfortunate.

Many Christians, as they get older, tend to forget this rudimentary part of following Christ. Many “adult” Christians forget to study and learn and really KNOW the scriptures. These children run around the building quoting more scripture than many of the so-called “adult” Christians may know themselves! It is a tragedy when we forget to study and know the Scriptures. We should be able to say more than just “I know Acts 2:38!” We need to have a mind set on the Scriptures so that we can offer words of wisdom to each person to comes into contact with us every day! The lost need the gospel, and we are the ones who have been entrusted to give it to them. Let us truly fulfill what has been set before us to do, and know the scriptures backwards and front, and be able to teach them to others so that they can be with God and us for eternity! Love them the way you were loved by God. Sacrifice a little of your time on earth to study God’s word and help others to know it as well.

“Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. ”

-Colossians 4:5–6
